6G Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (6G SNS JU) initially started activities in order to support and spread 5G/6G telecommunication technology research and related tools all across the Europe with its first open calls in year 2022. Including 4 main themes (Stream A, B, C and D), 6G SNS JU published a project portfolio as a summary and roadmap for 35 projects, in which they have provided approximately 250 million Euros grant support.
To increase the chance of taking part within the related Stream projects in the upcoming years or to follow the ecosystem closely, we recommend reviewing the document at the SNS Journal 2023 address. A summary of the support scopes of Streams and the number of supported projects in each Stream can be seen below.
Stream A: 5G Evolution (7 Projects)
- Energy-efficient radio networks,
- Adaptive Open Radio Access Network (Open RAN),
- Integrated 5G Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN),
- AI-based edge platforms, and intelligent resource management ensuring security, privacy and trustworthiness
Stream B: 6G Development (19 Projects)
- Research on novel 6G system architectures, advanced wireless and optical communication technologies,
- Ultra-reliable and low-latency communications (URLLC) applications,
- A 6G SNS platform, from an End-to-End (E2E) with architectural and functional perspective
Stream C: Experimental Infrastructure (3 Projects)
- EU-wide experimentation platforms to incorporate promising technical 6G enablers (e.g., from Stream B)
Stream D: Vertical Pilots (4 Projects)
- Large-scale SNS trials and pilots with specific verticals (media, IoT, energy, construction, automotive, manufacturing, eHealth, culture, agriculture and education)
Communication Support Actions (2 Projects)
- Collaboration environment for dialogue amongst European and global stakeholders involved in the preparation of 6G smart networks and services
